What Is Prayer?
Prayer is far more than a religious ritual or a list of requests presented to God. It is the heartbeat of our relationship with our Heavenly Father—a divine dialogue that encompasses worship, confession, gratitude, and petition.
Throughout Scripture, we see prayer as the catalyst for miracles, the pathway to peace, and the means by which ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things for God's kingdom. From Moses interceding for Israel to Jesus praying in Gethsemane, prayer has always been central to God's work in the world.
Jesus Himself modeled a life of prayer, often withdrawing to solitary places to commune with the Father. He taught His disciples not just how to pray, but showed them that prayer should be as natural and essential as breathing—a continuous conversation with the One who loves us most.

Types of Prayer
The acronym ACTS helps us remember four essential types of prayer that create a balanced prayer life:
Adoration
Praising God for who He is
Example: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.”
Confession
Acknowledging our sins and seeking forgiveness
Example: “Father, I confess that I have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed...”
Thanksgiving
Expressing gratitude for God's blessings
Example: “Thank You, Lord, for Your countless blessings, for Your love that never fails...”
Supplication
Making requests and interceding for others
Example: “Lord, I lift up to You my needs and the needs of others...”
The Model Prayer
When asked by His disciples how to pray, Jesus gave them this perfect template:
Matthew 6:9-13
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
